2010 Altostratus (Magnum)
The growing season was ideal for Pinot Noir in our Okanagan Falls location. A great spring and summer for nurturing grapes was abruptly halted by a deep freeze on Thanksgiving weekend. But by then our Pinot had already been picked, having seen harvest on September 19.
Our 2009 Altostratus continues the precedent set by our 2008. Slightly lighter in colour than the 2008, the nose is bursting with spice notes and complex berry. Cracked pecan nutshell, raspberry and Christmas cake can be detected. The palate is layered with a suggestion of butterscotch and huckleberry which in turn yields to black cherry and anise. Pie cherry and earthy minerality inhabit the finish.
At our house, we enjoy the Altostratus with rosemary/mustard crusted Rack of Lamb, herbed Chicken Provencal off the rotisserie and the occasional simply prepared Rib-Eye.
